What counts as scrap gold?
Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings, snapped clasps, old dental gold and mixed odds and ends are all fine. You don't need to sort or clean anything, and you don't need hallmarks, our XRF assay measures the real gold content of each piece.
We value scrap gold by weight and purity against the live LBMA spot price, so a tangled, mismatched lot is assessed just as accurately as a single clean item. Mixed carats are welcome; we separate and weigh by purity.
Any condition, valued on gold content
Scrap gold simply means gold you are selling for its metal rather than its looks. Broken chains, single earrings, bent or snapped rings, tangled jewellery and out-of-fashion pieces all qualify. Condition makes no difference to us because we value the gold content, not the item, so there is no need to clean, repair or sort anything first.
Each piece is assayed by XRF to confirm its carat, so worn or non-hallmarked scrap is valued on exactly what it contains.

FAQ
What counts as scrap gold?
Any gold item you no longer want: broken or tangled jewellery, single earrings, bent or damaged pieces, and mixed lots. Condition doesn't matter because we value by gold content, not appearance.
Do you pay for gold-plated items?
No. Gold-plated or rolled-gold items contain only a microscopic layer of gold and have no scrap value. Our XRF assay will identify plating.
Is there a minimum weight?
RecycleOld.Gold works on economies of scale, so we are able to offer better prices for larger amounts of precious metals and prefer a minimum of 10g. We will accept and pay for parcels with less precious metal than this, but there is a £15 administration fee for their return if you do not accept our offer.
Can I mix different carats together?
Yes. Send everything together and we separate it by purity, assay each group by XRF and price each at the correct percentage of spot.
